CSCS provides a web-based tool to let users manage their accounts and projects. It can be accessed here: https://account.cscs.ch
With this tool users are allowed to, among other things:
- Access their profile, manage institutional details or password reset
- List the projects they belong to (even those closed)
- Check details on each project, quotas and current utilization
- Overview of where the user has his/her files at CSCS (including homes, scratch, etc.)
As for group leaders (or PI's) the tool allows to:
- Manage user's membership and access control
- Invite users to their projects with an email address. Existing users can accept immediately, while non-existing users will get instructions to open an account and then join the project
- Remove users from their projects
- Select which users can access a system (and submit jobs) and which ones can only access project data
- Define one or more deputies to perform such tasks. Please note that the responsibility of what happens within the project still belongs to the group leader or PI
A short guideline on how to perform these tasks can be found below.
Usage
The tool should be quite intuitive (otherwise please let us know!) and is composed of the following main areas:
- A) Account selector, for those users that have multiple accounts (e.g. service accounts)
- B) Profile management, to view and edit the account's institutional details and change password
- C) Project membership, to show the selected project in detail
- D) Storage, where users can see where they have stored their files (home, scratch and project areas)
- E) Main view
Membership management (for group leaders and deputies only)
In order to invite users to a selected project, group leaders or their deputies need to:
- Select the project on the left menu
- Click the "Members tab"
- Scroll down to "Users" (or "Deputies" to manage deputies) section
- Use the + (plus) button on the right of the section and enter the given and family names and email address of the invitee, who will get instructions on how to join the project. The group leader will get a confirmation on whether the invitee has accepted or rejected his/her invitation. In case the invitee does not have an account, they will also get instruction on how to create one, which needs to be verified by CSCS administration staff
In order to remove users from a selected project, group leaders or their deputies need to:
- Repeat previous steps 1 to 3
- Use the icon with the three horizontal lines (see screenshot below) that is on the right of the user and select "Remove user"
In order to manage access to compute resources, group leaders or their deputies need to:
- Select the project on the left menu
- Click the "Access tab"
- Check (to grant) or uncheck (to deny) each individual user on each compute resource available to the project
Please note that, even if a user within a project is denied access to a compute facility, they can still have access to the project's storage resources.
